When I hear Lautrec I think of black cats and cabaret dancers.
But this time it's not Toulouse-Lautrec, but Lautrec, a French hip hop artist. Never really liked french hip hop or rap. Manau little, "La tribu de Dana" "de dana laa laadi daa...".http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPJD_ZnKIqI&feature=related
Found some nice songs. The Magnetic fields is an American indie band. Didn't hear any songs from them before. They have quite sweet songs!
The Magnetic fields - "Quick!"
Listen also this one, there were no good quality versions in YouTube but check it from bands MySpace site. Listened this already three times, sweet! Here's a part of the lyrics I listened from the song.
"Forever and a day, well dream our lives away.
Our love is here to stay, marry me. I'll give you every color of the rainbow,
they say it can't be done but what do they know.
You'll never be alone, you are my silly sine qua non and I'm a bariton, marry me."
A friend asked today to search for some classic circus music, so was browsing trough some songs and here we have: Oldschool circus music! The first and most know circus song ever, I believe, is composed by Julius Fucik. He was a Czech composer and lived 1872–1916. Although he composed over 400 marches, polkas and waltzes his most known piece is "Entry of the gladiators" which is still up to date used often in circus. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julius_Fu%C4%8D%C3%ADk_(composer)
Julius Fucik - "Entry of the gladiators"
Next one is more used in cabarees but also very very traditional circus song. It is composed by German born French composer Jacques Offenbach who lived (1819–1880). Find more info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacques_Offenbach
Jacques Offenbach - "Can Can (Orpheus in the Underworld)"
Next one also used everywhere and different versions of it. Could imagine this with some strong man acts!
Next one is from Никола́й Андре́евич Ри́мский-Ко́рсаков. Guess who it is?
Just to copy paste the name so I don't get anything wrong let me present you Russian composer Nikolai Andreyevich Rimsky-Korsakov! (1844-1908). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rimsky-Korsakov
This next one I have seen couple times in a circus show, would fit great into passing juggling.
Rimsky-Korsakov - "Flight of the bumblebee"
This kind of music was often used at black and white films and in silent films. Sometimes also in circus I think. Not this specific song but the genre. Victrola music! Victrola is a phonograph or also called Victor talking machine from the 1906. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victrola#The_Victrola
Ted Weems and his orchestra - "You're the Cream in my coffee" 1928
And lets jump into some newer acts..there are some songs I'd advise not use because they are already so used. But just for fun I want to list some of them here.
Lot of cool songs came more famous trough Matrix. And long black leather jackets! It's one epic example of overused songs. I think I will never be able to see any partner acrobat or aerial act with this song...
Rob Dougan - "Clubbed to death"
Or Darude!
Darude - "Sandstorm"
Gotan Project is also quite well getting there...
Gotan project - "Una musica brutal"
And the most most no no, on the red list. Everything from the soundtrack of Amélie! Especially this one!
Yann Tiersen - "Comptine d'Un Autre Été"
What you see so often that people have chosen such a bad song for their act that brings the whole thing down or doesn't add anything into it. Very often in hand to hand acts you have this lyrical don't go, leave me, no come back -music, where they are holding hands turning, walking away and then turning back during some minutes with this music spinning behind. Or in aerial tissu acts where they are doing those necessary hand movements while doing/ opening a knot, I call this "the strecthy time" when you have this slow "mysterious music" spinning. I would like to see people to be bit more creative with their music choices!
This is only small part if you want to find more just search YouTube with "hand to hand act", "aerial acrobatic act" but it's also with other disciplines!
Someone was listening Enigma today, so back to the late 90's we go! Enigma was founded by by Michael Cretu, David Fairstein and Frank Peterson in 1990 in Germany. They have some quite legendary songs. Here's a trio!
Enigma - "Return to innocence"
Enigma - "Voyageur"
Check also this if you want to see floating people on Times square:
I will make a small exception and write this post mostly in Finnish even though it's short. I was browsing some oldies songs from my childhood. Even the worst songs have something in them. Kitch, here we come!
Aikakone - "Alla vaahterapuun"
Vicky Rosti - "Sata salamaa (Finland Eurovision 1987)"
Miljoonasade - "506 ikkunaa"
Miljoonasade - "Tulkoon rakkaus"
Zen café - "Todella kaunis"
Pienenä tuli kuunneltua paljon Leevi and the Leavingsin "Haitaribussi" kasettia, ihan legendaarinen, vaikka ei ymmärtänyt juuri mitään sanoista vielä silloin!
Leevi and the leavings - "Pohjois-Karjala"
Leevi and the leavings - "Poika nimeltä Päivi"
"Teen sulle temput ja paskannan porealtaaseen!"
Leevi and the leavings - "Tikapuut taivaaseen"
Movetron - "Romeo ja Julia"
Neljä Ruusua - "Luotsivene"
Neljä ruusua - "Juppihippipunkkari"
Neljä ruusua - "Tie ajatuksiin"
Suurlähettiläät - "Kun tänään lähden"
Haluan lopettaa tällä ihan legendaarisella kappaleella!
Tip for this next one. Open Men of business or Phatt Shitt-song and the James Bond "From Russia with love" trailer below. MUTE (sorry about the typo here before) the trailer and play one of the songs while watching the trailer!
Vinnie Paz (Jedi Mind Tricks) - "Men of business (Nuttkase remix)"
Perception. "is the process of attaining awareness or understanding of the environment by organizing and interpreting sensory information."
How do we see, hear, feel and smell this world. We are often fooled by our senses. Mislead. But sometimes it's good to be mislead to find something new. To see the unexpected. We see things that we believe to be there, but are not. Often we also judge before actually really seeing, hearing or feeling. Neither consciously or unconsciously. Or hear sounds that don't exist.
Some time ago I read interesting news about the worlds quietest room that absorbed noise by 99,99%.
‘When it’s quiet, ears will adapt. The quieter the room, the more things you hear. You'll hear your heart beating, sometimes you can hear your lungs, hear your stomach gurgling loudly. In the anechoic chamber, you become the sound.’Steven Orfield told in the news.
The longest anyone has stayed there is 45 minutes.
"How you orient yourself is through sounds you hear when you walk. In the anechoic chamber, you don't have any cues. You take away the perceptual cues that allow you to balance and manoeuvre. If you're in there for half an hour, you have to be in a chair."
Steven Orfield told.
Can imagine that when all the sounds that you can relate to is taken away it gets too much. I think that sometimes it's also very healthy to be quiet and stop, but not for too long. Otherwise you miss all what is out there, the world. It's also hard to learn to see things differently, you have to teach yourself out from the norms what you are used to. This is why kids see things so differently, their imagination is not yet smothered by the habits of how you should see things. People should see all the small beautiful things that are there; like a moment when you cycle and just after you an acorn drops from the tree on the road after you, when a balloon on a stick is crossing the street on crosswalk pushed by the wind, a whirlpool of leaves flying in the air or seeing a full rainbow just after the rain.
I found some old piece of paper from my backpack, when I was emptying it because of the massive rain that made everything wet and thought that this video could be good continuation.
